Lead vocals, Guitar, Songwriter
“I have been interested in music since I was a child, I can always remember carrying around my case of cassettes and a small boom box running on batteries with me wherever I went, I was always singing songs. I remember one time when I was around five driving through the park with my mom. I was in the backseat bolting out the song American Pie and she was turning the radio off to catch me singing. I have photos of my grandfather and I with an acoustic guitar in my lap when I was 2 or 3, a Christmas photo from my first harmony guitar my dad bought me for Christmas when I was 9 or so. The point is that I have always loved music. So I guess it was inevitable for me to become a musician,” Brent James explains when asked about his musical beginnings that eventually brought to the microphone singing lead vocals, writing songs, playing guitar, and fronting several bands, including the Stone City Stragglers and currently, The Righteous Hillbillies.
James says that what fuels him is a “passion to create.” Although his musical accomplishments are well-known and well-regarded throughout the Chicago-area and beyond, it is not merely music that James crafts in his capable hands. He is a graphic designer, web designer, Illustrator, and painter. His paintings adorn the walls of Chicago-area homes and businesses, his illustrations make for the eye-catching cover art of his bands’ albums, and he even designed a Native American T-Shirt that continues to attract a national following.
His musical range is not limited to his highly praised vocal power and style or his songwriting abilities. James has produced seven full length albums, three singles and one, three song demo, for himself and other local musicians.
Fans and critics alike are drawn to James’ musical talent, stylistic originality, and consummate professionalism. Steve Downes, morning host on Chicago’s rock station The Drive, said, “Brent James has an innate ability to seamlessly blend alternative and
traditional country that would make Waylon, Willie, Kris & Johnny proud.”
Whether it is rocking the stage, painting a canvas, designing websites, clothes, and musical artwork, or producing albums, Brent James will continue to share his artistry and creativity with the world.
“It has always amazed me that long after you have gone from this earth an artist’s work, music or art is still living in the hearts of people. That is what I have always wanted to do is to create a legacy of work to leave behind when I am gone, to be respected for the heart and soul that I put behind my work, as I have respected others for theirs. I will be creating music and art in some form until the day I die.”
"Brent James has an innate ability to seamlessly blend alternative and
traditional country that
would make Waylon, Willie, Kris & Johnny, proud."

"More than half of the Americana world would be pleased with a song like "Magnolia."
"Six Feet Under" is a good listening bluegrass song, and "Piece of The Pie" is a rocking direct hit."

"One Night" with its “Suspicious Minds” sounding licks and sing-along-at-the-top-of-your-voice-
whilst-driving chorus is a cut above a lot of other newer alt-country out there."

“Dean Man's Curve” is no Jan and Dean sing-along; it is a sparse tale of despair. "You know the
blues when ya got 'em deep down in your soul, one foot in the fire, the other raking coal."

"Your able to look deep into the souls of people and walk away feeling as if you've lived the song."
"You'll find that the lyrics on tracks like "Things Left Unsaid," "Lonesome Day," "Wicked Moon"
and "One Night" penetrate the heart with tales of love, loneliness and deceit in a way that the
best blues albums of our time are accredited for."
